Application Deadline January 1, 2022
We offer fully funded two-year M.A. Degrees in a rigorous and collegial atmosphere. Our program is perfect for students who wish to prepare themselves for Ph.D. programs in Classics, who plan to become Latin teachers, or who simply want to continue their Classics education before pursuing a different career. Students can choose between the M.A. in Classical Languages, which culminates in a thesis, or the M.A. in Latin, which culminates in a teaching project. Both degrees emphasize careful attention to language, culture, and ancient language pedagogy. Students learn to write crisply, think critically, and work in teams.
Every year, we offer comprehensive surveys of Latin and Greek literature in the original languages, seminars in Latin and Greek authors, and seminars in Classical Culture. Recent graduate seminars have included Epigraphy, Hellenistic Poetry, Ovid, and Apuleius. Graduate students have the opportunity to teach Latin on their own and to assist faculty with courses that range from mythology to the Classical Americas.
We welcome students from all backgrounds who want to join us for a challenging and deeply rewarding intellectual experience!
