The Classics A.B. (Area of Emphasis: Classical Languages - Latin)/World Language Education M.A.T Double Dawgs program prepares students to be leaders in the instruction of Latin language at the P-12 level. The Classics A.B. provides excellent instruction in Latin language and the refinement of translation skills within the cultural contexts of Classical antiquity from Homer to Augustine. This program fulfills requirements for an M.A.T in World Language Education, which leads to GA certification at the T-5 level. Students will also have the opportunity to earn a TESOL endorsement for grades P-12 if they wish to be able to teach English to English Language Learners or have them as students in their Latin courses. Admission to the Program Students may apply to the Classics A.B.(Classical Languages - Latin)/World Language Education M.A.T. pathway during spring semester of the third year. Admittance to the pathway requires a 3.0 overall GPA and 3.0 in all CLAS or LLED courses. Admission to the Graduate Program Applicants are required to submit a statement of purpose, a transcript; and one letter of recommendation from a professor in Classics who can attest to the candidate's linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding. In addition, applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation from a supervisor who can attest to the applicant's experience working with children and/or adolescents (P-12). A total of 50 hours of documented experience is required that may come from a single or a combination of various sources, including summer employment; after-school programs; church programs; community programs; or similar experiences.
