Double Dawgs

The Classics A.B. (Classical Culture)/Classics MA (Classical Culture) Double Dawgs program provides future-ready skills to enhance careers in computer science, management information systems, finance and financial planning, engineering, statistics, publishing, biology, biochemistry, international affairs, political science law, and training for careers in teaching, archaeology, historic preservation, museum and art information. Pursuing a degree in Classics promotes the development of sharp analytical and critical thinking skills, along with a comprehensive understanding of language and an appreciation for art and culture. Research and writing skills are also paramount.

Classics A.B. (Classical Culture)/Classics MA (Classical Culture) Degree

The Classics A.B. (Greek and Latin)/Classics MA (Greek and Latin) Double Dawgs program provides excellent instruction in Classical Greek and Latin language and the refinement of translation skills within the cultural contexts of Classical antiquity from Homer to Augustine for careers in language teaching or in in preparation for PhD programs that require strong foundations in the Classical languages and Classical Culture.

Classics A.B. (Greek and Latin)/Classics MA (Greek and Latin) Degree

The Classics A.B./Historic Preservation M.H.P. Double Dawgs program prepares for careers in material culture, architecture and the built environment, and in historic preservation, as well as providing a pathway into Ph.D. programs in humanities fields. The Master of Historic Preservation is the terminal degree in the field of historic preservation, and would allow graduates access to employment options at local, state, and federal government levels, would prepare them to work in the non-profit cultural heritage sector, as well as to find employment in the museum, construction, cultural heritage tourism, and design industries.

Classics A.B./Historic Preservation M.H.P Degree

The Classics A.B. (Area of Emphasis: Classical Languages - Latin)/World Language Education M.A.T Double Dawgs program prepares students to be leaders in the instruction of Latin language at the P-12 level. The Classics A.B. provides excellent instruction in Latin language and the refinement of translation skills within the cultural contexts of Classical antiquity from Homer to Augustine. This program fulfills requirements for an M.A.T in World Language Education, which leads to GA certification at the T-5 level. Students will also have the opportunity to earn a TESOL endorsement for grades P-12 if they wish to be able to teach English to English Language Learners or have them as students in their Latin courses.

Undergraduate Programs

UGA Classics explores Greek and Roman culture (material; intellectual; religious) from Troy to Augustine; Classical languages and literatures (Greek, Latin, and in English translation); and the reception of Classical Antiquity with A.B. and M.A. Classics degrees with multiple areas of emphasis. Double Dawgs degrees focus on careers in Historic Preservation and World Language Education. Minor degrees in Classical Culture and Classics and Comparative Cultures complement degree programs across campus. New to Classics?
