UGA fully funds about six Classics M.A. students a year through teaching assistantships. You will be able to indicate on your application that you are interested in applying for an assistantship. First-year M.A. students assist faculty with courses as part of their assistantships. The department works hard to make sure that responsibilities are appropriate for the first year in graduate school. Obligations are reasonable and not onerous. Some second-year M.A. students also assist faculty, but many of them have the chance to teach their own sections of Beginning Latin under the direction of the Elementary Languages Coordinator. Students have the opportunity to apply for the Osborne Fellowship, which supports “outstanding students who are underrepresented in their fields.” Classics M.A. students win Osborne Fellowships almost every year. Funding for Conferences and Research is available from the Graduate School and from the department. Every year, UGA M.A. students present at national conferences and graduate student conferences. Four second-year students presented at CAMWS in April 2021!
