Double Dawg Classics A.B.(Classical Culture)/Classics M.A. (Classical Culture)

The Classics AB/Classics MA Double Dawgs program provides future-ready skills to enhance careers in computer science, management information systems, finance and financial planning, engineering, statistics, publishing, biology, biochemistry, international affairs, political science law, and training for careers in teaching, archaeology, historic preservation, museum and art information. Pursuing a degree in Classics promotes the development of sharp analytical and critical thinking skills, along with a comprehensive understanding of language and an appreciation for art and culture. Research and writing skills are also paramount.

Admission to the Program

Students may apply to the Classics A.B. (Classical Culture)/Classics M.A. (Classical Culture) pathway during the fall semester of the third year. Admittance to the pathway requires a 3.3 overall GPA and 3.3 in all CLAS, GREK or LATN courses. In addition, applicants are required to submit a letter of intent, a transcript, and one letter of recommendation from a CLAS faculty.

Admission to the Graduate Program

Admission to the graduate program occurs by February of the fourth year, for matriculation as an M.A. student in fall of the fifth year. All admissions requirements to the M.A. program are also required for admission to the graduate portion of the Classics (Classical Culture) Double Dawgs program. The M.A. requires a minimum of 42 hours of CLAS classes.

Study Abroad

Students are encouraged to participate in the Department's UGA Classics in Rome study abroad program that offers upper-level CLAS and LATN courses that satisfy degree requirements for the Classics A.B.

Undergraduate Programs

UGA Classics explores Greek and Roman culture (material; intellectual; religious) from Troy to Augustine; Classical languages and literatures (Greek, Latin, and in English translation); and the reception of Classical Antiquity with A.B. and M.A. Classics degrees with multiple areas of emphasis.
