Dual Degree AB Classics/BSEd TESOL and World Language Education

Students enrolled in the Dual Degree AB Classics/BSEd TESOL and World Language Education program earn degrees in both the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the Mary Frances Early College of Education. This degree program offers increased career flexibility and the option of completing the TESOL and World Language Education program in a student's Arts and Sciences content field. Students pursuing a career in teaching graduate with a strong content base and Georgia certification at the T-4 level, as well as the opportunity to study in two of UGA's best colleges.

Admission to the TESOL and World Language Education Program

Students must be enrolled in the TESOL and World Language Education major (B.S.Ed.), apply for the major during the spring semester of their junior year, and meet all requirements for admission to teacher education. Requirements include an overall minimum GPA of 2.6, passing or exemption of the the GACE Program Admissions Assessment, and completion of some coursework particular to the department of entry. In addition, TESOL and World Language Education students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 for all courses in Area VI as well as fulfill GAPSC requirements.

Admission to the Dual Program

To be eligible for the dual degree, a student must first be admitted to the major in TESOL and World Language Education (B.S.Ed.). Students will be identified as early as possible in order for them to begin coursework within the dual degree framework. TESOL and World Language Education (B.S.Ed.) students apply to the major during the spring semester of their junior year. Students must meet all requirements for admission to teacher education. Requirements include an overall minimum GPA of 2.6, passing or exemption of the GACE Program Admissions Assessment, and completion of some coursework particular to the department of entry. In addition, TESOL and World Language Education students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 for all courses in Area VI as well as fulfill GAPSC requirements.Undergraduate academic advisors in the Departments of Classics and Language and Literacy Education will advise students wishing to complete the proposed degree programs in a timely manner.

Study Abroad

Students are encouraged to participate in the Department's UGA Classics in Rome study abroad program that offers 9 credit hours of upper-level CLAS and LATN courses that satisfy degree requirements for the Classics A.B.

Undergraduate Programs

UGA Classics explores Greek and Roman culture (material; intellectual; religious) from Troy to Augustine; Classical languages and literatures (Greek, Latin, and in English translation); and the reception of Classical Antiquity with A.B. and M.A. Classics degrees with multiple areas of emphasis. Double Dawgs degrees focus on careers in Historic Preservation and World Language Education. Minor degrees in Classical Culture and Classics and Comparative Cultures complement degree programs across campus. New to Classics?
